We then drove through steep hills to Sukerara, a weaving village. It’s
different to the local hand weaving done in Cambodian’s homes. I was told that
all women in this village have to know how to hand weave before they get
married because otherwise their parents won’t let them get married!
This seems
so unfair, I mean what if a girl has other strengths? Maybe she doesn’t have
good fine motor skills but is a fantastic musician or is very intelligent and
wants to go to university to be a doctor or engineer? She would still have to learn to weave! But . . . I learned . . . sort of!!
Then I was wrapped in a traditional sarong and walked to a traditional house. It actually WASN'T Mum's idea (surprisingly!)
