White sand

One more SHORT post to write about the beach at the hotel. It is AMAZING, the turquoise, cerulean, aquamarine water with the surf breaking at a reef further out. (BTW, the south of Lombok is meant to have one of the best surfing in the world - wish I could surf better!).

.

AND the sand ! .. I also caught crabs and lots of dead, bleached coral.

The sand is white because it's made up of of calcium carbonate, which comes from the shells and skeletons of reef-living marine organisms (like corals and molluscs). The sand is like small beads, it's not like the sand with quartz in it like around Sydney which comes from weathered rocks.

  1. Is the beach water Warmer than your pool? I can't swim unless th water is singapore water temperature - which means I rarely swim in Australia!

  2. The beach water is warmer than my pool, which could give you hypothermia. Singapore water temperature is too warm for swimming laps.
