FINALLY - we descend into Cambodia

FINALLY - we descend into Cambodia

Mum said that although we travelled as cheaply as we could to Cambodia, she never wants to book the route we took again! It took 26 hours with 3 flights and 12 hours of transit, in Brisbane and Singapore, to reach Siem Reap.

Flying into Cambodia always gives me a sense of familiarity and so much pleasure, but this time - it was joy!

We were here at the same last year, but there was a huge difference to the landscape as we flew from the south. Last year it looked like we were flying over a huge river because the wet season was wet! This year, the rains have not drowned the country as much.

Last year

BTW - from my Geography lessons, here are some “important” facts:

Siem Reap is 13º 21’ N / 103º 51’ E. It is in the Northern and Eastern hemispheres.
It is GMT+7 and Sydney is GMT+10. So when it is 7am in Siem Reap, it is 10am in Sydney.
Siem Reap is NW from Sydney. And Sydney is SE from Siem Reap!  Siem Reap is N from Singapore. And Singapore is S from Siem Reap.
The map below isn’t a good map because it doesn’t have a:
Border
Orientation
Legend
Title
Scale!

We are driving to Battambang (WSW from Siem Reap) near the Thai border, then by bus to Phnom Penh (SSE from Battambang). The map below doesn't have BOLT but does have S of BOLTS!
Even though Battambang looks like it's 100km from Siem Reap .. it is actually 174km by road, and will take us 3 hours!
