The protest

The Boeung Kak Lake in the centre of Phnom Penh was filled in. I have seen it every time I fly into Phnom Penh. But I didn't know that there were also 9 villages around the lake where 4000 families lived.

They were forced to move. They had their land grabbed from them. They got some money for their land but not nearly what it was worth.

The people have been protesting peacefully. Today Mum and I saw a protest by a group of woman land rights activists (people who are taking action against being forced off their land). They had signs saying "Free Bopha and Sokmony". Bopha and Sokmony are in jail because they protested.

The women were shouting out loudly, we walked with the protest to the Buddhist temple where they finished their march. Mum googled the internet to find out more and there are a lot of people around the world concerned about the government ignoring human rights.
