Arriving Lombok

The taxi came at 5am and at 7am we were heading to Gate F59. It wasn't a short flight (like Saigon to Phnom Penh), but it wasn't a long flight (like Sydney to Saigon), it took 2 and a half hours. I don't think I could ever do a flight to Europe or the States!

We were sitting on the left, so because we were flying south-east to Lombok, it was hard to take photos facing the sun. But here are the 3 Gili islands we'll be boating to on Tuesday.

Lombok is 8 degrees S and 116 degrees E.

Mt Rinjani - the 2nd highest volcano in Indonesia. It's active!
Even though as we descended into Lombok airport and saw the lush green (which is very different to flying into Saigon or Phnom Penh or Singapore), the south part of the island has a serious water shortage. The deforestation is lowering the water table, and some villagers have to walk 2 hours to get a bucket of water.

As we got closer to our hotel (in the south) I could see it is arid compared to a rainforest (like in Borneo).
This view is from over our fence in the villa.
